Creating Unique Stained Glass Panels

Commissioning a piece of painted and etched stained glass art creates a special opportunity for you to work collaboratively with Tanglewood Tales. Each piece is hand painted and etched to follow the vision of your design.

Step 1: Initial Consultation

Tanglewood Tales begins the commission with an email consultation to discuss your ideas and overall vision. This is where the option of having the finished panel encapsulated will be discussed.

Step 2: Design Phase

After the consultation and payment of a non-refundable retainer, Tanglewood Tales will create a design drawing to include everything outlined in the initial email discussion.

Step 3: Creation

Once the design phase is complete, Tanglewood Tales will begin work painting and etching on your chosen colour and size of the stained glass.

Step 4: Encapsulation

After the stained glass panel is complete, there is an option to have the piece encapsulated into a toughened glass unit. Suitability will be discussed at the time of the initial consulation.

Step 5: Delivery / Collection

Whether the panel can be delivered, or needs to be collected from the studio location in Derbyshire will depend on the size and weight of the completed piece.

FAQs

Find answers to your questions about commissioning your painted and etched stained glass panel.

How long does it take?

The commissioning process varies in length depending on complexity of design and the size of the finished piece, as well as the current work schedule and whether the piece is to be encapsulated into a double glazed unit. The estimated will be discussed in detail in the inital email consultation.

What is the cost?

Costs vary based on size, design complexity, and type of glass used. A detailed quote will be provided after discussing your vision, outlining everything that will be included in the final piece. Revisions can be included but these will reflect in the final cost. Any revision costs to be added will be discussed and clarified before finalisation

Can I choose the glass?

We have a variety of art glass to choose from, often with a hand rolled effect on the surface, which has unique reams and bubbles in each piece. There is a wide range of different colours to choose from, from deep greens, sea blues, to fiery sunset oranges. Transparency and opacity varies, making each piece of glass completely unique due it's handmade qualities. Choice of glass will be discussed in the consultation phase before work begins on the hand painted piece.

What if I change my mind?

We understand that ideas can change and so work can envolve. If you wish to make changes after the initial design is approved, we will accommodate reasonable requests. However, after the non-refundable retainer has been paid no refunds will be given.
