Hello everyone!
For my very first blog, I thought I’d write about how I find the inspiration to create some of my etched paintings on stained glass.
My latest inspiration came from a dusk walk in the snow. As we returned home, I noticed a large, dark shape in the snow covered field next to the footpath. Suddenly it moved! That unmistakeable, lolloping gait, huge ears held high...I couldn’t believe I was seeing a hare this close to home! We crept along, keeping him in sight as he ran into the middle of the next field, then something absolutely magical happened. As we stood watching, the hare started bounding in joyous circles, shaking his head and leaping high over the frosted grass and thistles. It was sheer magic...with a full moon overhead, the snowy ground sparkling with diamonds of frost, and a wild creature literally dancing for joy.
I couldn’t wait to get back home to start sketching ideas for a panel. This sketch shows what I’m intending to create to try and capture some of the magic. I looked at lots of photos and videos of hares frolicking to draw a pose I remembered from the night, it’s meant to look like he’s in mid flight. I’m going to paint this wildly leaping hare onto streaky white Sea glass for the snowy background and add lots of detail into the twisted brambles at the bottom, with the frosted thistles growing through them. Look out for a photograph of the finished piece in the near future.
Update- I found the most amazing streaky white glass for the etched painting, so I’ve really enjoyed creating my hare dancing in the snowy moonlight. I have now included a photo of the finished piece underneath my original sketch. It will be available as a limited edition here on my website, please contact me if you're interested. This glass will be mounted in a piece of reclaimed wood, so I’ll add another photo when that is done too. #tanglewoodtales #hare #snow #moonlight #stainedglass #handpainted #etched

The field near my home where the hare was dancing...I’ve used the line of the hedge in my sketch.
