It’s been ages since last I wrote on my blog…I’ve been so busy! Lots of things have happened over the last year but I decided it was important to find time to write this blog because I’m now able to have any of my painted and etched glass panels encapsulated into a double glazed unit!

This means they can be fitted in areas with high moisture content, so they’re fine for exterior windows or doors, bath and shower rooms. I had a number of enquiries about making panels for these areas, but was limited by the fact that the professional glass paint I use isn’t weatherproof.

A lovely client persuaded me to create a piece for her which she was confident could be made into what is actually a triple glazed unit…and at a very reasonable cost. I was unsure of the process but thought it would be wonderful if it was possible. So I created the panel and she delivered it to her local glazing company who did a wonderful job of encapsulating this first piece!

It was so exciting to see the panel I made for her enclosed within two separate pieces of glass, then sealed and finally filled with argon gas to make a completely safe and protected environment for the etched glass panel. I now have a very reliable local company which undertakes this process for me. They can create units to an exact size, either 32mm deep or 28mm deep, and could use safety glass as an option for low windows or door panels.
If you would like a quote for a double glazed unit, I would need to know the exact size of the area the unit is to fit into, so I can work out the size of the glass and quote for the panel, then separately for the encapsulation. To give an idea of price, to encapsulate a piece 300x400mm costs from about £40.
