A dream home in France... the clients found an idyllic place near a hamlet in Normandy, which they fell in love with and eventually purchased. The house is La Hyonniere, which has no known translation from the French, an ancient, stone built property with barns and an acre or so of land. Perfect! Due to the vagaries of buying a property in France, the purchasing took rather a long time and was finally completed just as Covid 19 took over the world…

This was my original sketch for the house name, but I decided the name would be too difficult to read with so many branches, so I kept the lettering and adapted the design.

This piece was produced so the clients could have something really unique to put in place in La Hyonniere, when they eventually get there for the first time as the new owners. It’s painted and etched onto a piece of medium amber Antique Cathedral glass. I have used a slightly different technique on it, as I used a glass paint which can be fired at 150 degrees (you actually put it in the oven!), and is then really hard wearing, it’s even dishwasher proof! This is quite a large piece, so needs to be framed. I frame these in oak and add copper eye hooks and wire for hanging. However it was eventually completed as an unframed piece, so the clients could decide how they would like to finish it, as it fits a 12x8 inch picture frame.

I’ll update this piece when the glass is framed and again when it eventually gets to hang in its new home in France, I hope it really does signify the beginning of a dream come true.
If you are interested in commissioning something similar with a house name and landscape, on the glass colour of your choice, please contact me. The price would be approximately £75 unframed, with oak frame and copper hanging hooks and wire it would be £100 plus post and packing.

I’ve just added a photo of the glass in the truly wonderful, rustic frame which was made by the client. It looks absolutely perfect in it! I’ll update with a photo of it in situ, when it is eventually taken to France.
